Mindfulness and Compassion for Trying Times: An Educational Retreat

Each session will be split roughly between practicing together and learning about how mindfulness practices can help us and our clients, patients, or students navigate challenging, uncertain times.

Day 1:

· Uncertainty, fear, and price of staying on high alert

· The right practice for each moment: when to put emotions aside and when to process them

· The science of mindfulness: proven tools for stress reduction and emotional regulation

· Practices:

o Mindfulness Foundations: Focused Attention & Open Monitoring

o Embracing Impermanence

o Here and Now I’m Safe;

Day 2:

· Empathy fatigue and the promise of compassion

· Working with inner and outer critics under stress

· Self-Compassion practice: soothing ourselves while soothing those we care for

· Practices:

o Affectionate Breathing

o Loving-kindness

o Evoking a Loving, Wise Friend

Day 3:

· Mindfulness and compassion for safe social connection

· How mindfulness practice strengthens relationships

· Making a connection rather than an impression

· Practices:

o We Were All Once Children

o Compassion for a Difficult Person

o Mindfulness Foundations: Focused Attention & Open Monitoring
